Mary Thorne

A diverse performer, soprano Mary Thorne has established herself in the contemporary repertoire over the past season. Ms. Thorne appeared in the role of Marie in John David Earnest's opera-in-progress, The Theory of Everything, with Encompass New Opera Theatre performed on New York City Opera's VOX: On the Edge. She sang Young Korczak in the workshop performance of Adam Silverman's Korczak's Orphans with the Opera Company of Brooklyn. In concert, Ms. Thorne worked with David Del Tredici on the performance of his piece for soprano and orchestra, Haddock's Eyes. Her performance with the Greenwich Music Festival in John Cage's Five was considered "exceptional" by Countercritic.com.

Frequently heard in Mozart roles, Ms. Thorne has sung Königin der Nacht in Die Zauberflöte with the Opera Company of Brooklyn on its unique BYOB Series and appeared in the same role with One World Symphony. Other Mozart roles include: Papagena in Die Zauberflöte and Mademoiselle Silberklang in Der Schauspieldirektor with New York Metro Vocal Arts Ensemble, and Barbarina in Le Nozze di Figaro with the Bronx Opera Company. This season she makes her Amato Opera debut as Despina in Cosė fan tutte.

An accomplished recitalist, Ms. Thorne has created and presented a variety of programs. The latest, "Mostly Virgil Thomson," features Thomson's songs and his influence on American composers. This fall she sings songs by Fauré and Poulenc on a program of French music for the CUNY Graduate Center's Music in Midtown series.
