Stanley Alexandrowicz - guitar
Classical guitarist Stanley Alexandrowicz has given premieres of new works by composers from Europe, Asia, and America, and is quickly becoming one of the most sought-after artists of his generation.> Besides a repertoire encompassing the standard literature from the Renaissance through the present day, his specialization in contemporary music has led him to perform for such renowned 20th century 'voices' as Hans Werner Henze. Forging new paths in literature for the guitar, his recital programs embrace a wide repertoire including newly commissioned works, neglected masterpieces of composers Hector Angulo (Cuba) and Václav Kucera (Czech Republic), and his own arrangements and transcriptions of works by Witold Lutoslawski, Benjamin Britten, and numerous others. He has recently been awarded the Ernst Bacon Grant for Recording to commit to CD the premiere performances of the composer's works for guitar. (He is also editing these works for publication). His new solo CD for ALBANY RECORDS - featuring 20th Century American guitar works by Ernst Bacon, Kendall Kennison, Matthew Halper, Timothy Moes, Stephen F. Pearson, Edward Green, and Carlton Wilkinson - is due for release in Winter 2003. He holds a Doctor of Musical Arts Degree from the Manhattan School of Music (where he worked with Manuel Barrueco) and has held academic positions including Director of Bronx House Music School, and performance, history, and theory faculty at Mercy College, New York. |
