For Immediate Release For more information please contact: Ben Gomez, Director of Public Relations at (212) 866-2958 or e-mail info@artistworld.org American Conductor Marlon Daniel appointed Associate Conductor position of Prague Sinfonietta September 28, 2004, young American Conductor Marlon Daniel, Artistic Director of Manhattan Virtuosi and Music Director of Ensemble du Monde (chamber orchestras) was appointed a joint position of Associate and Assistant Conductor of Prague Sinfonietta in the Czech Republic. Prague Sinfonietta Music Director, Miriam Nemcová, states; "…I thought Marlon Daniel would be a perfect choice for the position. He not only already has much experience but also he is young and can be molded into an even better conductor. He has the opportunity to perform and to learn, and as for myself, this situation gives me the option of not spreading myself too thin by managing too many people. Although his official title is Associate Conductor he will be filling the position of Assistant Conductor as well. I can effectively kill the proverbial two birds with one stone, acting as a mentor to only one instead of two or three conductors. Marlon is independent, highly intelligent, motivated and most of all musically talented. For a young conductor, the Czech Republic is one of the best places in the world to hone one's craft. Our country has produced some of the best conductors in the world like Rafael Kubelik, Karel Ancerl, Václav Neumann, Libor Pešek, Jirí Belohlávek Zdenek Mácal and many others." The position is in collaboration with the Prague Conservatory of which Maestra Nemcová is Head of Orchestra Studies. It is a two-year position and will encompass both the 2004/2005 and 2005/2006 seasons. As part of this appointment Marlon Daniel will also work with the Prague Conservatory Symphony Orchestra throughout the two academics years and study in a specialized Post Graduate Artist Degree Program. This is the first time a non-Czech conductor has been granted this position, and Marlon will undoubtedly show the progressivism of this newly joined European unionized country.
